Choosing a Vintage Engagement Ring

If you decided to buy an original vintage engagement ring, you should consider these points to be sure that you are purchasing a good ring:
- Be sure to have the ring appraised to verify the authenticity and worth of the jewelry.
- Many vintage items are very delicate, be careful with the ring so that you do not damage the design or prongs that are holding the gems in place.
- Have a jeweler inspect the gems so that you understand how strong they are.
- Have the vintage engagement ring cleaned by a professional jeweler. A professional cleaning will remove any dirt and grime that has built up over the years.
- Understand that the cuts if vintage gems not as precise as modern gems. Jewelers of the past did not have technology to get clean cuts, so many of the truly vintage stones will have small flaws along the edges. These flaws may slightly devalue the ring, but it is usually countered by the value of the age of the ring.
